Welcome to Madison Clayworks, started in 1996 by Pam Korte and Sandy Gantzer as a working pottery studio open to the public. They had a small gallery space to sell the work produced in the studio. Pam left in 1998 to devote more time to her family and teaching at Mt. St. Joe.
In 2001, after over 4 years in Oakley, Sandy moved to a lovely old 1800's house in Madisonville that has a larger gallery and showcases other area potter's work. Additional space is used as private studios and for teaching. As before, the studio is open to the public and we welcome visitors to watch pottery being made.
Madison Clayworks is one of the few Cincinnati venues that sells only locally handcrafted pottery for the home and for gift giving. We have built a loyal customer base with our high quality pottery. Click on pottery shop to see the potters that have work in our gallery.
We are well known for "MUG SHOTS", a show that we have every October, with over 20 of your favorite potters. We have a competition "mug on a mug" for fun and a prize. We always get some great "mugs"! Our customers love the variety of mugs that are available. Mugs make great gifts for that someone special you may want to thank for being especially kind. A set of mugs is a super gift for a family member, and a set of mugs with a tray makes a lovely wedding gift, or a unique gift for that person you really want to impress.
We offer classes for adults on the wheel and specialize in handbuilding. Our classes are geared for beginners but we are expanding our class schedule and will offer an intermediate handbuilding class in 2004. Our teachers have been with us since our move to Madisonville; student participation has continued to grow each year.
Children's classes are also a priority at Madison Clayworks, we have wheel and handbuilding classes for ages 8 and up. Our children's classes are held mostly in the summer months; they have become quite popular. Throughout the year, we have Girl Scout and Brownie troops from all over the greater Cincinnati area come to earn their clay badges.
Madison Clayworks is flexible when it comes to helping you learn. We can set up a program for any age, any business group, or social gathering, just let us know what you want.
We will work with you to set up a class for "night out" with friends or coworkers. Companies can bring associates from out of town for a different learning experience while visiting our city. They can make a pot and have us fire and glaze the pot, then we send it to them after they have returned home.
Some of our students have gone on to sell their work and some of them are just interested in pottery making as a fun hobby. Clay is easy to work with and is relaxing. If you have a stressful job, this is the medium for you. Clay can also be challenging for students who want the challenge and there is a lot to learn if you wish. Or you can just have fun and do a lot with just a little knowledge. Our studio is small so we can work with you to structure the kind of experience you are looking for.
Our goal is for you to have a "positive experience" with clay, whether it is in a class or a piece of pottery that you purchase. The people that visit our shop are the nicest folks in the world, we have made a lot of friends through Madison Clayworks. It is our wish to have you join those people. Get to know us and our pottery, by making your own pottery or by purchasing from our gallery of clay artists.
